Description
This interactive practice-based online workshop offers an introduction to making video essays for teaching and learning purposes. It seeks to encourage the integration of video essays in Higher Education institutions, through both theoretical insights and practical examples emerging from pedagogic, research and editorial experience.By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to:
- gain insight on the academic value of video essays as tools for active learning and teaching
- understand the various phases and tasks involved in the production of video essays
- feel confident to produce a simple video essay, demonstrating knowledge and application of basic languages, structures, aesthetics and editing techniques
- understand the structure of the research statement to be written in dialogue with the video essay
- design a marking criteria for the evaluation of video essays
This course is supported by the ‘Introductory Guide to Video Essays’, published open access in Learning on Screen in 2020 by Dr Estrella Sendra (King’s College London) and Bartolomeo Meletti (Learning on Screen).
No previous experience is required. However, participants are welcome to bring working material in order to receive feedback and insights for their transformation into video essays.
