In addition to being a tax haven, Dubai is also a hub for international trade between Asia and Africa, and is ideally positioned to push back at the West. “In today's multipolar world, that's a powerful idea,” says Krieg. "There is a great need for a counter-narrative. You also see this in the Gaza war, where the global south stands up for the Palestinians much louder than Europe and the United States."
