“#Israel is not just bogged down in a two-front war. They’re bogged down in a three-front war, and the IDF has committed quite considerable capacity in the West Bank as well,” said Dr Andreas Krieg, a Middle East security analyst and lecturer at King’s College London.
“You still have still got fairly high intensity combat at times in Gaza. You still have IDF soldiers in Gaza. And so in terms of capacity, the IDF is spread very thinly compared to where they were in 2006 when they entered Lebanon last time, where the IDF had 10,000 boots on the ground in Lebanon.”
Israel would need to build up logistics and support forces to mount a sustained incursion, Dr Krieg added, suggesting the invasion force would need to advance along “at least three or four corridors” into Lebanon.
