Description

The King’s Brazil Institute, in cooperation with the KCL Modern Languages Centre, the African Leadership Centre and the Centre for Mexican Studies (UNAM – UK), launched this Multilingual Literature Events Series. This series of events aims to celebrate and showcase the importance of reading multilingually and multiculturally. It will begin with an Opening Ceremony/Launch Event (Thursday 21st October) which will introduce the objectives of this series and include a panel of distinguished authors. This will be followed by two online seminars which will explore Women Authors and Works about Women (Thursday 18th November 2021) and Works in Translation (Thursday 9th December 2021). We will conclude the Series in Februrary 2021, during King's Brazil Week, with a Closing Event featuring King’ College London Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD student's participation as well as debates and interviews with prominent bilingual and multilingual authors.

This Launch Event was a success and featured a virtual Keynote Address from Dr. Ana Maria Sousa Aguiar de Medeiros (KCL) as well as in-person discussions by panellists Sitara Khan (Poet, Author and Educator) and Yara Rodrigues Fowler (Author), chaired by Maísa Edwards (KCL PhD Candidate). We explored topics such as the importance of multilingualism and multiculturalism and reading multilingually.
