Privacy notice for research study This is a study being conducted as part of a PhD research project (ethical clearance reference number: HR-18/19-10629). The purpose of the study is to explore the experiences and perceptions of mental health problems and care in people from ethnic minority backgrounds in the UK, by conducting interviews with participants who have agreed to share their views.

Why do we process your personal information? We process your personal information, such as your name and contact details, in order to contact you to share the study information sheet and consent form, and to arrange an interview with you to participate in this research study (Mental health problems and care: perspectives of people from ethnic minority backgrounds in the UK). Your information and details are kept strictly confidential. If you do consent to participate in this study, your responses will not be linked to your name and will remain completely anonymous.
What is our ‘legal basis for processing’? Data protection legislation allows us to use your personal information in this way because you provide consent for us to process your personal information, based on clear and specific information, with a genuine choice (without any pressure), and the ability to change your mind at any time. There are no direct benefits to your sharing personal details to discuss participation in this study. However, if you do participate, your answers will help my research project, exploring mental health in people from ethnic minority backgrounds. This research could be used to inform and improve mental health policy and services to better suit the UK’s diverse population. There are no impacts on you if you do not provide your data for processing. You may withdraw your consent for your personal data at any time. If you consent to participate, you may withdraw your interview data up until 30 April 2021, after which withdrawal of your data will no longer be possible due to your data having been committed to the final report.
Do you have to provide your personal information and what are the consequences of not doing so? You do not have to provide any information. Sharing your personal data for participation in this study is completely voluntary. You should only take part if you want to and choosing not to take part will not disadvantage you in anyway. 
How long do we keep your information for? We will keep your information for 7 years after completion of the study, in line with the King’s College London Records and Data Retention Schedule for research studies. If you consent, your responses will be anonymised and archived for further research.
Do we share your information with other organisations? Your data will be kept strictly confidential. We will not share your information with any external organisations. On rare occasions, we may be required or permitted to share personal information by law (e.g for law enforcement purposes).
