Description

“At the heart of this new alignment is a shared understanding: Qatar provides capital and connectivity as Washington’s diplomatic force multiplier; the US offers security, access and prestige,” explained Dr. Andreas Krieg, an Associate Professor at the Defence Studies Department of King's College London. “This relationship now rests on two strategic pillars. First, Qatar’s role as a regional economic and diplomatic underwriter; and second, its status as a major investor in US strategic industries.”

“Doha’s mediation in the Gaza conflict, its backchannel influence with Hamas and its credibility with both western and regional actors have positioned it as an indispensable player in shaping a post-war governance framework for Gaza,” Krieg told Amwaj.media.

“Strategically, Qatar has positioned itself not merely as a gas exporter or mediator, but as a regional stabilizer and financial engine—a state willing to bankroll post-conflict reconstruction in Gaza, Syria, and beyond, thereby reducing pressure on US regional commitments,” Krieg concluded. “This suits Trump’s doctrine: minimal US costs, maximum leverage through wealthy partners.”
