West urges Tunisian president to release grip on parliament

Andreas Krieg, an academic from King’s College London who is writing a book on the UAE’s involvement in its neighbours’ politics, said it had been lobbying Tunisia to take a tougher stance on Ennahda. “UAE-supported influencers on social media and conventional media have for years vilified the Ennahda movement,” he said. “UAE have certainly been involved in ripening the information environment to allow the president to take this action with partial popular consent.”
