We developed the first systematic review collating data on the determinants of ageism towards older people. The results of this work informed the creation of the WHO Global report on ageism, a toolkit that brings together the best available evidence on the nature and magnitude of ageism, its determinants and its impact to outline what strategies work to prevent and counter ageism, identify gaps and propose future lines of research to improve our understanding of ageism.
