Organisation profile

The Department of European & International Studies formally launched in September 2011. It developed out of a collaboration among several departments dating back to 1992, and is distinguished by its broad interdisciplinary approach to the study of modern European and international politics and political economy. It is located in the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy.

The staff at the Department of European & International Studies contributed to King's being ranked as one of the top universities in the UK for research on politics, including top position for research power, with most of its research being classified as ‘world class’ or ‘internationally excellent’ in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.  European & International Studies derives further strength from its close association with the departments of War Studies and Languages, Literatures and Cultures, both of which have consistently ranked as leading departments for their research and teaching.
