The Department of History at King's reflects a long and distinguished tradition of cutting edge research. King's historians are based in a young, vibrant department, whose staff members are world leaders in a spectrum of historical research, from the ancient to contemporary world. We are particularly proud of the connections we make between different periods and places.

RAE The highest (5*) ratings in 1992, 1996 and 2001 and strong performance in 2008 RAE: 60% of the department’s research was rated ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.

Research income Over £2 million recently, from the AHRC, Leverhulme Trust, British Academy and Wellcome Trust.
