Research in the Department of Music is enormously varied. Staff in the Department have specialisms and areas of interest which include: composition, performance, ethnomusicology, jazz, music and science, critical theory, and Western music history of many periods. The range of areas results in a lively research atmosphere. The Department has particular strengths in opera studies, Western music of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and composition.
