Biographical details

I grew up in Mexico and now find myself calling London "home" for the past five years. Most of the time I've been here, I spent doing my Master's degree in European Studies at King's College London and my PhD in International Political Economy. Ultimately, my overall grade and Master's dissertation–which focus on irregular employment in the UK and migration from the Eastern European Union after Brexit–were awarded the highest mark. The incredible time I had at KCL and London, in general, encouraged me to immerse myself in this PhD to develop my previous Master's dissertation on the irregular economy of the UK and its links to migration in a globalised era.

My career and research interests include migration to and within the European Union, the EU's foreign policy, its democratic deficit, and disillusionment with the European project. Before moving to London, I was lucky enough to study at Sciences Po in Paris as part of my undergraduate degree at Mexico's top university.

As part of my PhD, I had the chance to be a Graduate Teaching Assistant for Politics in Modern Spain, Central and Eastern European Politics and History of the International Relations. For this academic year, 2024-25, I will be doing Global Politics and War in International Order.

Some personal aspirations would be to move to Spain or Italy next year and join the rowing team.

Research interests

My research interests concern migration in general and, more particularly, migration movements between European countries. For instance, during my Master's dissertation, the movement of Eastern Europeans to the UK after Brexit was the highlight, but during my PhD, I decided to focus on Southern European Countries, mainly Italy and Spain. From all these countries the background is globalisation, making the study updated and relevant for future research to understand why would someone move regardless of economic hardship.
