Biographical details

Dr. Ainoa Castro is a palaeographer specialised in Medieval Latin Palaeography and Manuscript Culture, mainly on Visigothic script and Visigothic script manuscript sources - charters, cartularies, and codices. 
She holds a Ph.D. in Sciences and Techniques of Study and Conservation of Bibliographic and Documentary Heritage by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and a License in Mediaeval Studies by the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies - University of Toronto. 
In 2013, she was awarded an Astrik L. Gabriel Postdoctoral Fellowship in the History of Medieval Education at the Medieval Institute - University of Notre Dame, and an Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies - University of Toronto. In 2015, she held a Virginia Brown Fellowship in Latin Palaeography at the Center for Epigraphical & Palaeographical Studies - Ohio State University, and soon after a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Research Fellowship awarded by the European Commission. 
Since September 2015 Dr. Castro works at King’s College London on her research project “ViGOTHIC Towards a typology of Visigothic script: the Beatus British Library Add. 11695 and its potential for dating and localising Visigothic script manuscripts”, which aims to establish a solid point of reference for the analysis of Visigothic script and its manuscripts by creating a computerised database of quantitative data that will allow codices to be described, compared, and placed in their socio-cultural context. 
Dr. Castro collaborates with many interdisciplinary research groups based in Europe and abroad with her expertise in Medieval Spanish Palaeography, and is also an active member of the Digital Humanities Community.
