In 2010, Anna was awarded with a BSc in International Business and Management from Aston Business School. During her studies she undertook a placement year with International SOS assistance UK where she worked on multiple medical consulting projects including pandemic preparedness planning and health impact assessments which were part of wider environmental impact assessments. This experience steered her interests towards scientific research and in 2010 she went on to do an MSc in Environmental Monitoring, Modelling and Management (EMMM) at King’s College London where she was awarded a distinction.
After working for GVA in both their Telecoms and Sustainability teams for over a year, Anna re-joined the King's Department of Geography in 2013 to take up a NERC funded PhD studentship.
Thesis Title: Invasive Species as Natural Hazards: Developing an Invasion Severity
Member of the Earth and Environmental Dynamics research group.
Anna’s academic interests are in invasive alien species (IAS), natural hazards and their economic, social and environmental impacts. IAS can cause substantial environmental and economic damage to their host ecosystems and societies, such that they may be considered a form of ‘natural disaster’. The main objective of her PhD is to create a ‘scale’ of invasion severity (based on key impact criteria) that may be used to galvanise action by governing bodies and communities responsible for the prevention and control of IAS.
