    Biographical details

I am from New Zealand where I completed my BA in Psychology and Sociology, a Masters in Health Psychology, and PhD at the University of Auckland. My PhD investigated the use of visualisations of medical disease and treatment to improve patient health behaviours, including adherence. Visualisation includes the use of 3-D models, animations, and live demonstrations to demonstrate disease processes and the mechanisms of action of a given health behaviour or treatment. In my previous work, I developed visualisation interventions in a range of illness groups including HIV, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and osteoporosis. I completed my PhD in 2019. Following this, I moved to London to begin a role as Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Centre of Behavioural Medicine at UCL School of Pharmacy from 2019 to 2021. This role focused on developing adherence interventions in different illness groups, such as tuberculosis, thrombosis, and breast cancer.
I joined the Health Psychology Section in the Department of Psychology at KCL as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in December 2021. My research work is currently focused on setting up an implementation and feasibility study, investigating the use of routine mental health screening and treatment for psychological distress in patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). I also teach on the BSc Psychology Year 2 and am involved in the supervision of Masters and PhD student projects. My research interest continues to be in patient self-management and developing intervention to support this, particularly the use of visualisation to improve patient understanding, motivation and adherence to health behaviours.
