Personal profile

Biographical details

July 2007-September 2010: during his haematology specialty training at the University of Sassari Dr Galleu joined the research lab of the Haematology Division where he acquired basic science research skills in flow-cytometry, PCR and capillary electrophoresis and contributed to the findings that T-cell Receptor repertoires are significantly restricted in haematological malignancies and diabetes. Furthermore, he designed and carried out his first independent project which stemmed in a published manuscript (Galleu et al. 2012).

September 2010-January 2016: He worked at Prof. Dazzi’s lab as a Research Associate. His interest has focused on the immunomodulatory properties of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSC) and their use in Graft-versus-host-Disease (GvHD). Over this period, he refined his skills in molecular biology and flow-cytometry and successfully applied and was awarded by Bloodwise a Clinical Research Training Fellowship (CRTF) in 2015.

January 2016-present: CRTF at Prof. Dazzi’s lab where Dr Galleu further developed his studies of MSC immunobiology and successfully applied for ethics approval, has become highly experienced in pre-clinical models of GvHD, liver and peritoneum inflammation and gained proficient expertise in fluorescent microscopy and in vivo cell tracking systems. His discoveries has advanced the understanding of MSC immunosuppression mechanisms in vivo and brought to a publication in Science Translational Medicine which was awarded with the Jon J. van Rood Award for the Best Paper in the Immunology of Allogeneic Hematopoietic Transplantation in the Cellular Therapy and Immunobiology Working Party.
