Mr Ben Davies

Research interests

My main research interests are human enhancement, distributive justice, and axiological issues around death. My doctoral research unites these areas by looking at the ethics of lifespan enhancement. I am considering how typical criticisms and defences of lifespan enhancement take particular views of the elderly and their place in society with regard to what they are justly owed, and how the disvalue of death might affect those views.

My other interests are metaethics and metatheories of value, subjective theories of value (particularly of well-being) and the moral status of animals.

You can see some of my work on my personal webpage, or email me at benjamin.1.davies@kcl.ac.uk

Biographical details

I took an undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Politics at the University of Edinburgh, finishing in 2009, and then completed an MA at King's in 2011. My MA dissertation was on the foundation of special obligations between co-citizens and co-nationals.

I have recently submitted my PhD thesis in Philosophy, which considers and refines three central objections to anti-ageing enhancements in humans. I have also worked as a GTA teaching Epistemology II; Utilitarianism; Theories of Justice; and History of Political Philosophy; Ethics I; and Moral Normativity in the Department of Philosophy, and on Critical Bioethics and Global Health Ethics in the Department of Social Science, Health & Medicine.
