Research interests

My research focuses on premodern environment and landscape, particularly the cultures of early medieval water and waterways. I am interested in the ways in which 20th and 21st century artists, poets, writers and filmmakers use watery spaces as a means of entering into dialogue with the voices and communities of the Anglo-Saxon past; and how early medieval ways of knowing the world might offer productive interventions into urgent contemporary conversations on the environment.
