Research interests
Early Modern Philosophy
Most of my historical interests are in the philosophy of the early modern period. Among them are the relationship between mathematical practice and philosophy of mathematics in the 17th and 18th centuries, the intersection of religion and philosophy, idealism and immaterialism, empiricist philosophy, and theories of perception (particularly visual perception). I am especially interested in the philosophies of Berkeley, Bacon, Locke, Hume and Molyneux.
Philosophy of Mathematics
My interest in the philosophy of mathematics arose out of a curiosity concerning the introduction of calculus and historical debates about the admissibility of infinitesimals. Further interests include axiomatics, disagreement in mathematics, the introduction of transfinite mathematics (Kroenecker and Cantor), infinitesimals and hyperreals, rigor, and general foundations of mathematics. Some philosophers that have influenced my thoughts on philosophy of mathematics would be (historically) Euclid, Berkeley, Hilbert, Brouwer, and (more recently) Judith Grabiner, Paolo Mancosu, Sol Feferman and Douglas Jesseph.
