Research interests

Dan's research has two main focuses:

1) Psycholingustic: Within this focus, Dan is specifically interested in the cognitive and neural mechanisms which underpin adaptation to speech that is in some way difficult to understand. This difficulty can be caused by an array of elements such as background noise, speed of production, familiarity with the voice/accent of speaker and so on. Within this work, Dan use a mixture of behavioural and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) experimental designs.

2) Pedagogic/student experience: Within this focus, Dan is interested in investigating the motivations for students to persist through difficult academic periods, with an interest in the services student access, why they access them, how they are useful (or not) and what the university sector can do to reduce and/or better support students through periods of difficult academic progress.
