Research interests
Deepak Mawar began his PhD in 2014, focussing in the area of Public International Law. He completed his LLB at the University of Kent, with a year abroad at the University of Vienna, in 2012. He then subsequently completed his LLM in Public International Law at Leiden University in 2013, where he was shortlisted for the prestigious Leiden University Thesis Prize. Deepak was a Legal Intern in the Defence Office at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon in 2014 and was a rapporteur for UNCOPOUS at the UN headquarters in Vienna in 2011.
Deepak's primary interest are in the field of Public International law, with a special focus on legal theory and political philosophy. He also has a specific interest in the history of Public International Law. His PhD thesis analyses Peace and Justice development in International Law and the manner in which primary international institutions such as the League of Nations, the United Nations or the International Court of Justice have dealt with such concepts in a domain heavily influenced by the power of the State. Deepak is supervised by Dr. Thomas Schultz and Dr. Philippa Webb.
