My thesis _Pierre Baillot and Violin Pedagogy in Paris, 1795-1815_ explores the Conservatoire’s impact on Parisian musical culture through its commercialisation of technical skill. Sources include the Conservatoire archive, press reviews and pedagogical treatises. The classes of Pierre Baillot, one of the inaugural violin teachers at the Conservatoire, form a principal focus.

Biographical details

I have assisted on undergraduate music history courses at King's, in addition to teaching AS and A2-level music history and composition modules at an independent school in Surrey.

I'm currently a translator - French to English - for the University of Rouen music department, and an editor for Swedish Musical Heritage, University of Gothenburg. I'm also a Lead String Teacher for Hertfordshire Music Service, where I teach whole-class and individual violin lessons, manage an area youth orchestra and coach at county level. I also lead professional development sessions for string colleagues and have recently become a teaching moderator. My violin takes me around the wedding and corporate entertainment circuit, as well as friends' houses for cake, gossip and chamber music.
