Mr Dom Birch

Research interests

My PhD looks at how early modern people resolved disputes, informally, without litigating. I touch on themes of legal pluralism, the relationship between communities and the role of the early modern state.

I am also interested in history and emotions, the ethics of history-writing, history and sociology, and historical linguistics.

I love interdiscplnary study, and remain convinced that the best way to move the discipline forward is to look to other areas of study.

Biographical details

I come from Stockton-on-Tees in the North-East of England—and I try to keep my connection to the North East.

I did my BA and MA at Durham University, supervised by Andy Wood and Natalie Mears.
