Biographical details

Emily is a PhD candidate in Law under the supervision of Dr Leslie-Anne Duvic-Paoli and Professor Peer Zumbansen. Emily’s research concerns the responses of 'law' to the problem of climate change. In particular, she is interested in the centrality of the state in ushering in the clean energy transition. She particularly focuses on how transnational legal normative developments influence the ways in which the UK Government exercises its administrative functions to encourage greenhouse gas reductions in the fossil fuel sector in compliance with the statutory 2050 net zero target mandated by the Climate Change Act 2008. She is also interested in the wider implications of the turn to ‘cleaner’ sources of energy, including bioenergy, and the environmental and social impacts associated with their use.

Emily has been a Visiting Lecturer at King's College London since 2018 teaching undergraduate Tort and Environmental Law. She has been invited to give guest lectures in LLM modules concerning Climate Change Law at Birbeck University and the intersection of climate change and Ocean Law at the Centre for Transnational Legal Studies, London.

Emily has been the Student Managing Editor for the Transnational Legal Theory Journal since 2017. She is responsible for the day to day running of the journal, and has convened and guest edited two special issues in Transnational Food Security (2019) and Transnational Environmental Law in the Anthropocene (2020).
