Biographical details

Dr. Flavio Dell'Acqua is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Translational Neuroimaging at King's College London's Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN). His research focuses on neuroscience and medical imaging research, developing and implementing new Diffusion MRI and Tractography techniques to study brain connections in health and disease.

At the IoPPN, he co-founded the NatBrainLab, a multidisciplinary team for neuroanatomical research and methodological development in brain imaging. His work bridges the gap between technical innovation in diffusion imaging and practical clinical applications, including methods licensed through King's College London and implemented in FDA-certified clinical software.

Dr. Dell'Acqua completed his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering at the Polytechnic of Milan, followed by a PhD in Biomedical Technologies from the University of Milano-Bicocca. Following his PhD, he joined King's College London as a Post-Doctoral Research Scientist, where he has since established himself as key investigator in major international projects including the EU-AIMS Longitudinal European Autism Project and iMarkHD, a longitudinal neuroimaging study of Huntington's Disease.

He is involved in multiple collaborations involving microstructure imaging and brain connectivity across major institutions in the UK, Europe, USA, Canada and New Zealand, including partnerships with pharmaceutical companies and research foundations.

Dr. Dell'Acqua has served as Chair of the Diffusion Study Group at the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) and currently holds the position of Vice-President of the International Society for Tractography (IST). He is the Chief Editor of "The Handbook of Diffusion MRI Tractography" published by Elsevier in 2024 and has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers in the field of neuroimaging.
