My PhD thesis, 'Poet of the Medieval-Modern: Reading Old English with David Jones,' uses new archival evidence to illuminate the influence of Old English literature and Anglo-Saxon culture on twentieth century poet and artist, David Jones, and the long Modernist poem The Anathemata. Using both manuscript drafts and personal correspondence, but with an especial focus on the marginalia and collected ephemera found between the pages of his personal books (now preserved in the Library of David Jones at the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth) this archival work facilitates a new methodology for reading with David Jones.
