Research interests
Professor Forastiere is a leading figure in the field of health impact of environmental factors on human health, with over 35 years’ experience working for regional health authorities in Italy.
Most recently Professor Forastiere was the Director of the Etiological and Occupational Epidemiology Division of the Department of Epidemiology (DEP) Lazio Regional Health Service for 12 years until his retirement in 2017 and he retains a visiting appointment with the DEP. He is a Consultant for WHO/Geneva and World Bank/PMHE. Professor Forastiere has a medical background in respiratory physiopathology and in occupational medicine.
He has been PI on several EC funded projects, including HEAPPS, AIRGENE, ESCAPE, ENNAH, INTARESE, APHEKOM, MEDALL, MEDPARTICLES, EPIAIR, VIIAS and PICCOLI+. He is author or co-author of more than 500 peer reviewed papers. Professor Forastiere has focused on the application of scientific research findings to a wide range of public health issues, including air pollution, radon, waste disposal, occupational exposure to silica and asbestos, and environmental tobacco smoke.
