Dr. Dowd's research covers topics in social epidemiology and population health focusing on the interaction of social and biological factors over the life course. Current projects include understanding the role of stress and immune function in health inequalities, links between infectious and chronic disease, trends in educational attainment and mortality, social determinants of the human microbiome, and the impact of long-term obesity on health and functioning.
