Biographical details
Jettawat (Arm) Pravat is a PhD candidate in Development Studies with Reference to Emerging Economies at King’s College London. He is also a recipient of the Anandamahidol Foundation Scholarship under the Thai Royal Patronage. Before coming to King’s, Jettawat was matriculated at Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge and awarded an MPhil in Education, Globalisation and International Development. He additionally earned a BA in Politics and International Relations from Thammasat University, Thailand, where he was originally trained to be a political scientist.
Jettawat’s doctoral research centres on skill formation in Thailand’s industrial sectors, investigating the interplay between national institutions, global value chains, and university-industry-government linkages. Theoretically, his work rests on, and seeks to bridge the gaps between, comparative capitalisms and global production literature. In practical terms, the study aims to gain a comprehensive understanding of Thailand’s skills challenges and their implications for economic upgrading, while also proposing policy prescriptions.
Research interests
His broader academic interests include the developmental state, middle-income trap, catch-up industrialisation, higher education for development, and other issues related to the political economy of development, particularly in East and Southeast Asia.
