His research interest lies in the Chinese military and its organizational culture. His PhD thesis examines the interplay between organizational culture, doctrine, and operational patterns in early PLA (1954-1979), and focuses on the incentives and dynamics of continuity/changes in PLA’s operational understandings, preferences and practice.
