    Biographical details

    Kris is an interdisciplinary researcher, principally focused on the environment, hydropolitics and development. He is highly competent with satellite remote sensing, GIS, and open-source environmental sensor design, in addition to social science methodologies.

    Initially trained as an environmental consultant, Kris has extensive fieldwork research experience in Southeast Asia, South and Central America. He has earned a BSc. Hons. in Geography (Durham), MSc. in Conservation (University College London), and has attained his PhD from the Geography Department of King’s College London. Prior to joining the Department, he taught at London School of Economics in addition to teaching and working as a laboratory technical assistant in the King’s Geography Department.


    Research interests

    Kris’ primary research investigates the environmental and social impacts of hydroelectric dams, combining remote sensing techniques with interviews of locally-affected communities.

     

    Kris was also successful in helping secure a NERC/AHRC (Newton Fund) research grant to study the human and environmental conflict in the Boyacán Páramos, Colombia. He will be working on the POR EL Páramo (POst-conflict Reconciliation of Environment and Livelihoods in Boyacá Páramo) project until 2021.

     

    Kris is additionally a research assistant on Shifting In/equality Dynamics in Ethiopia: from Research to Application (SIDERA) – investigating environmental change and livelihood impacts in the dryland region of the Omo river basin.
