    Biographical details

    Dr Lerong Lu is a Reader in Law and the Director of Postgraduate Studies at The Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London. He is the Founding Director of the King’s Law & Technology LLM programme.

    Dr Lu is an expert in International Financial Law and FinTech Regulation. He is the author of three books: Private Lending in China (Routledge, 2019), Global FinTech Revolution (Oxford University Press, 2024), and Towards Financial Superpower (Oxford University Press, 2025), and has published over 50 articles in edited volumes and academic journals. His research has been supported by prestigious funding bodies, including the British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust. He also serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Law, Ethics & Technology as well as an External Examiner for PhD theses and PGT programmes at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS) and Russell Group universities.

    Dr Lu is frequently invited for interviews with leading media outlets, including BBC One, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, and The Straits Times (Singapore), where he provides expert insights into the laws governing international financial markets and technological innovation. He advises the Law Society of England and Wales and the American Bar Association (ABA) on LawTech and FinTech training for legal practitioners. He offers expert guidance to national governments, central banks, financial regulators, and lawmakers across Asia and Europe on corporate and financial law reforms.

    Prior to joining King’s College London, Dr Lu was a Lecturer in Law at the University of Bristol. He holds a PhD and a Master of Laws (with Distinction) from the University of Leeds. He graduated from the East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL) with dual bachelor’s degrees in Law and Economics. He is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
