Biographical details

Louise joined KCL in 2014 as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the Social Science of Engagement. She holds a PhD in Social Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), an MSc in Applied Social Research from Trinity College Dublin, a BA in History and Politics from University College Dublin (UCD) and a full Post-Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching (PGCHE) from the LSE. She is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.

Louise’s research interests include using systems approaches to understand and address the phenomenon of organisational ‘complexity’, particularly as it relates to organisational safety and policy implementation; theorising service-user engagement in publically funded organisations; and investigating the intended and unintended consequences of New Public Management approaches. Louise’s research has focused on exploring these issues in relation to both health services and children's services. She currently has a particular interest in systemic organisational effects on and of patient recruitment to research in the NHS and the wider development of a health research system.  

Louise lectures on the Masters in Public Health and on the NIHR Guy's and St Thomas'/KCL Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) post-graduate Qualitative Research Methods course.
