Dr Alvarez's main interests lie in the philosophy of action, including the nature of agency, the metaphysics and explanation of actions, free will and moral responsibility, etc. She is also interested in reasons generally and more specifically in practical reasoning, the normativity of practical reasons, and related issues. Her work in these areas connects with the views of philosophers such as Aristotle, Aquinas, Thomas Reid and Elizabeth Anscombe. She has published widely on these topics and her book Kinds of Reasons was published by Oxford University Press in March 2010. She’s currently working on the connection between agency, choice and moral responsibility.
