Research Profile
I am an historian of late medieval and early modern Europe with a focus on Germany and Central Europe. I have published on the late medieval crusades (in particular against the Hussites and Ottomans), responses to war and heresy in German-speaking communities, the general ecclesiastical council of Pavia-Siena (1423-4), and military financing, technological change and logistics.
Since 2018, I have worked at Kings College London as the German language and archives specialist on the project ‘Bees in the Medieval World: Economic, Environmental, and Cultural Perspectives 1200-1600’, led by Dr Alexandra Sapoznik. In pursuit of sources that can shed light on apiculture and the economic and cultural significance of bee products (especially wax and honey) in the medieval period, I have scoured dozens of archives from Basel to Tallinn, and Bruges to Nuremberg.
