Visiting Research Fellow at King's College London (2023-2024)
I am a scholar of Modern British History, with an emphasis upon the mid-to-late Victorian era until the Great War. I am particularly interested in themes and ideas springing from considerations of landscape, rural concerns, national identity in an imperial age, travel writings, transatlantic exchange, the evolution of public education, egalitarianism, and the changing natural world. My training was in the liberal arts tradition, and my prior research focused upon American Western history; English and European literature; religious movements; and late-nineteenth century art. My historical practice springs from an intentional inter-disciplinary intellectual engagment.
