Dr. Matthew Head researches music of the German-speaking 18th century in its aesthetic and social contexts. He is the author of two books that link musical practices, aesthetic discourse and the politics of both representation and participation: Orientalism, Masquerade and Mozart's Turkish Music (RMA/Ashgate, 2000) and Sovereign Feminine: Music and Gender in Eighteenth-Century Germany (California University Press, 2013). His current project turns to the senes and affect, exploring keyboard music of the late 18th century through notions of 'touch', feeling and sensation.
