Dr
Paul Expert is currently a Research Associate at the Centre for Neuroimaging Sciences at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London in the group of Prof. Federico Turkheimer.
He did his undergraduate studies at the University of Geneva until getting a Master degree in Physics and a Master degree in Statistics in 2007 and 2009 respectively. He then joined the Complexity & Networks group at Imperial College London for his PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Kim Christensen. He graduated in 2012, and still holds a visiting position in the group.
His first research interest is the study of networks, particularly their structure and dynamics and their mutual influences. The application of concepts from graph theory and homology enables us to study the structure of complex brain functional networks and differentiate clinical populations as well as the neural correlates of brain function.
His second research interest is a residual from his physics upbringing: self-organised criticality (SOC). Although proper SOC is only found in theoretical models, concepts and methods from statistical mechanics can be used to understand a wide range of natural phenomena, from economics to brain function.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
