Personal profile

Biographical details

I moved into medical research after a career teaching mathematics and statistics at secondary level and pre-University; qualified with an MSc in medical statistics from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in 1991; and since then has worked at KCL, first in Primary Care & Public Health Sciences , and since 2000 in the Division of Women’s Health and the School of Life Course Sciences.

I started as a consulting statistician, supporting clinical & academic researchers at St Thomas’ Hospital, and serving on the St Thomas’ Research Ethics Committee.  More recently,  I have worked in the Maternal & Fetal Research Unit, first on the Vitamins in Pregnancy (VIP) study, and then a wide range of obstetric research questions.  I provide support regarding study design (particularly sample size & power), data analysis, and interpretation & reporting of results.

My clinical interests include the major complications of pregnancy (prematurity, failure to thrive, preeclampsia, intrahepatic cholestasis of Pregnancy etc.) Recent team successes have included the QUiPP phone app to determine the risk of premature delivery, the CRADLE Vital Signs Alert device which greatly simplifies the management of hypertension and other pregnancy complications.
