My research aims to identify genetic and environmental factors associated with the development of psychiatric disorders and response to treatment. I have led and collaborated on a number of projects which address this broad aim including human pharmacogenomics, gene-environment interactions, circadian rhythms and behavioural pharmacology. I completed a PhD in 2011 which investigated the effects of genes, environments and their interaction on depression and response to treatment and subsequently took up a Research Fellow post investigating the effects of treatment on violent outcomes in psychosis. I was recently awarded an MRC population health scientist fellowship for a three year project entitled “Translating gene-environment interaction from aetiology to personalised medicine for anxiety and depression”. This project aims to investigate if the same genes that moderate the effects of the environment on the development of anxiety and depression may also be important predictors of response to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
