    Research interests

    British elections, concentrating on public opinion and voting behaviour, but also the impact of aspects of the electoral system on electoral outcomes (electoral registration, constituency boundaries, relationship between votes and seats, etc.), and public opinion between elections, particularly those aspects of it with political or constitutional implications, including though not restricted to direct impact on voting behaviour.

    Opinion polling methodology, and measurement issues arising from this with implications for interpreting survey evidence on public opinion. (This includes but is not limited to the question of accurate prediction of election results in eve-of-election opinion polls.)

    Use of survey evidence in political marketing, especially election campaigning.
