Dr Hearn is a GP Partner in North London having trained at the Royal Free & University College Medical School. During Covid-19 he led Primary Care Hot Hub and Vaccination services in North London. This included delivery of 170,000 vaccines through PCN led sites working with healthcare students from KCL. He led the UKs first 24 hours vaccine clinic as well as multiple mass vaccination events at Tottenham Hotspurs and outreach clinics across Haringey.
As well as working clinically he is also a Reader in Medical Education at King’s College London where he is the Deputy Director of Community Education; Director of the intercalated BSc degree in Primary Care; and Doctor as Teacher module lead.
Dr Hearn works with postgraduate trainees as GP trainer and Foundation supervisor. He is also the Pan-London Academic GP training programme director, and Dean of Primary Care (NWL) for Health Education England.
In addition to his academic and clinical roles he enjoys being outdoors and is a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine and runs courses on expedition and pre-hospital care.
His achievements in education have been recognised with several Teaching Excellence Awards at KCL and national teaching awards including the Royal College of General Practitioners award for Outstanding Teaching 2018. Dr Hearn was awarded a National Teching Fellowship (NTF) by Advance-HE in 2022 in recogntion of his "contribution to the teaching profession internationally as well as nationally and locally and the influence he has had on practice in the UK and abroad."
He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2019 for his contributions to healthcare and education. He was elected a Fellow of the Faculty of Medical Leadership & Managment based upon his clinical leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic.
