Biographical details
Dr Montes-Garcia's research examines recent developments in Mexican art, especially over the last two decades, with the appearance of ‘global conceptualism’ as the dominant form of contemporary art. It explores historically the reception of Mexican art in the USA and the influence of ‘multiculturalism’ in the global art world to explain the achievement of a more prominent position for Mexican art. The political uses and aesthetic implications of ‘conceptualism’ are considered in the context of the transformation of the Mexican regime during the 1990s; and debates within the Mexican art world are covered.
