Dr
Dr Slavik Tabakov, PhD, CSci, FHEA, FIPEM, FIOMP is Consultant and Reader in Medical Physics and Director of the Postgraduate Programmes: MSc Medical Engineering and Physics and MSc Clinical Sciences at King’s College London (School of Medicine). His MSc programmes, activities and students had received numerous external awards:
Dr Tabakov is an active officer of the International Organisation for Medical Physics (IOMP) and the International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine (IUPESM). He has been elected and re-elected several times as Chair of the Education and Training Committees and Honorary Treasurer of both organisations. After the international elections in 2012 Dr Slavik Tabakov is President-Elect of the IOMP (www.iomp.org).
Dr Tabakov is the leading developer of the concept of e-Learning in Medical Physics, the fist educational Image Databases, the first e-books (currently used in 70+ countries) and the first e-Encyclopaedia of Medical Physics and related Multilingual Dictionary of terms (in 29 languages) – www.emitel2.eu. The project Network currently includes 320 specialists from 36 countries. Dr Tabakov is also Co-author of 8 textbooks, 5 e-books and 5 Image database CD-ROMs, 1 Encyclopaedia, approx. 100 papers, and has been invited speaker at 26 International Conferences.
Currently Dr Tabakov is Co-Editor of the IOMP Journal Medical Physics International; Co-Editor of the Book Series on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering (CRC Press) and member of the Editorial Board of the Journal Health and Technology (Springer). He has Coordinated 6 International projects, one of which received the inaugural prize for vocational education of the European Union – the Leonardo da Vinci Award (2004).
Dr Tabakov has been the leading Organiser of 4 International Conferences and more than 50 International Workshops and Seminars (venues in 20 countries) on Medical Physics and Engineering Education and Training. He has advised the development of Medical Physics and Engineering Education courses in 15 countries and has been elected Visiting Professor. Dr Tabakov is also Coordinating Director of the Medical Physics College at ICTP, Trieste (UNESCO/IAEA). In 2006 he has been awarded with the IOMP Harold Johns Medal for Excellence in Teaching and International Education Leadership.
