Biographical details

Stephen Morgan has a general interest in notions of national (and transnational) cinema and a desire to investigate underexplored corners of film history. As an Australian (with Scottish parents) living in London, he has a particular interest in the intersection between the British and Australian film industries, notions of Australian identity in the British context, and wider Anglo-Australian sociocultural relations. To that end, he runs TheFarParadise.com, a blog project looking at Australian cinema in the UK, whilst his doctoral work involves a wide-ranging, historical-contextual analysis of a series of films produced in Australia between 1945 and 1960 by that 'quintessentially British' studio, Ealing.

A keen believer in the importance of preserving our collective moving image heritage, he has also been involved in a number of archive related projects in Australia and the UK, including working as a Cataloguer for the East Anglian Film Archive (contributing to the Union Search catalogue hosted by the British Film Institute), as Audio-Visual Archivist for the London Underground Film Festival, and short-term projects at the British Film Institute and the Royal College of Art.
