Dr Ta-wei Guu, MD, PhD, is a certified psychiatrist and sleep medicine specialist. Dr Guu has been interested in sleep disturbances, depression and dementia, and attempt to understand the interactions between these symptoms and factors such as circadian rhythm, nutrition and environmental light. He believes the advance in wearable technology will ultimately improve the understanding, measurement, and treatment of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders.
Dr Guu completed his PhD in 2024, in the Department of Old Age Psychiatry, IoPPN, KCL with his thesis titled 'STAND-S study - explore sleep, circadian rhythm, light and neuropsychiatry symptoms in dementia with wearable devises.'
Before his journey in King's, Dr Guu completed his post-graduate training in National Taiwanese University Hospital, and had a short visiting period in Stanford Sleep Medicine Center, before practicing psychiatry in China Medical University Hospital and then China Medical University Beigang Hospital. He has been appointed as the chief of educational division in the Hospital’s Department of Education and Research since 2017. Internationally, Dr. Guu was awarded the "Young Scientist Award" in 2013 WFSBP Congress, and the "Young Investigator Award" in 2018 ASSM Congress. Domestically, he was awarded the "Excellent Educator Award" in 2016 and then in 2018.
