    Biographical details

    Ute Stephan is Professor of Entrepreneurship at King’s College London. Her research explores (1) entrepreneurial well-being, stress and health, (2) culture and institutions, and (3) social entrepreneurship. Ute is recognized as a Fellow of the International Association of Applied Psychology and a 21st Century Entrepreneurship Research fellow. She publishes in leading journals such as the Journal of Business Venturing (JBV), Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice (ETP), Journal of Management, Annual Review of Organizational Psychology & Organizational Behavior (AROPOB), Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS), Management Science, and others. Ute serves on the editorial review boards of the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, JBV and ETP

    Ute currently serves as Associate Editor at the Journal of Management and Editor at Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice.  From 2015-2019 she was Editor-in-Chief of Applied Psychology: An International Review, and from 2019-2022 Consulting Editor at the Journal of International Business Studies.

    Her research has won multiple international awards, attracted over GBP 3 million of funding from the European Commission, the UK Government, UK Research councils, Charities and German Government Institutions; and has being featured in the media including the Guardian, the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, the Times, Al Jazeera, Forbes, Bloomberg, WIRED, BBC news and others. 

    Ute led projects commissioned by UK Government Departments on social entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial aspirations. She currently leads a 30 country study on Entrepreneurship & Covid-19, and was a lead investigator of the 10-country SEFORIS project which stands for Social Enterprises as a Force for Inclusive and Innovative Societies, and its predecessor the SELUSI project. She is an elected board member of the GLOBE project (Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness project) and of the International Association of Applied Psychology, and a Strategic Advisor to the Founder Mental Health Pledge, a global coalition of startup investors, founders, and leaders to destigmatize and encourage mental healthcare for founders as a business imperative.
