Dr Wendy Hall is Reader in Nutritional Sciences, Head of the Diet and Cardiometabolic Health Research Group, and Lead for the King’s Nutrition Metabolic Research Unit.
“My long-term research goal is to enrich understanding of how nutrition influences cardiometabolic disease risk. This is essential for the development of dietary strategies to promote healthy ageing, and to provide the highest quality evidence to inform dietary guidelines”
Dr Hall has held an academic teaching and research post at King's since 2005, following completion of her PhD in dietary amino acids and appetite regulation at University of Surrey (2001), and postdoctoral research posts at University of Surrey (vitamin E biokinetics, 2001-2002) and University of Reading (soy isoflavones and CVD, dietary fatty acids and insulin sensitivity; 2003-2005).
A key objective of her research is to provide high quality clinical trial data, using standardised methodologies, to provide scientific evidence relevant to public health policy and the food and drink industry. Dr Hall's broad research interests relate to the the nutritional modulation of lipid metabolism, postprandial glycaemia and lipaemia, cardiovascular function, oxidative stress and inflammation. Specific interests include investigating effects of dietary fatty acids (omega-3 fatty acids, saturated fatty acids), polyphenols (particularly those derived from soy, apple and berries), sleep/dietary quality interactions, and weight loss strategies on cardio-metabolic risk markers.
Dr Hall was awarded the Silver Medal for scientific excellence in nutrition by the Nutrition Society (2016), and the Faculty Supervisory Excellence Award (2018). She is a Registered Nutritionist (RNutr 455, Association for Nutrition) and has been a member of the UK Nutrition Society since 1995, and the American Society for Nutrition since 2010.
