An investigation of the ongoing impact of China's hukou reform on the second generation migrant workers' identity
Member of the Cities research group
Research interests
My research interests is centered around the migration and social transformation of China from the late 1970s to the present. My interests include rural migration, the second generation migrants' positioning and the hukou policy.
Contemporary China's rural-urban dualistic society is characterized by its unique hukou system. This has caused inequalities in social status between migrants and local residents, and leads to discrimination against rural-urban migrants. My study will mainly focus on the impact of the hukou system on the second generation migrants' living conditions and see how the system works on their identities.
