N2 - This paper is a revised version of the policy document, the Agent Technology Roadmap, originally published (within the census period) independently by the European Commission’s AgentLink II network of excellence (that received 803K EUR funding). In identifying existing successes and challenges, and future possibilities and demands for agent-based computing, the document has been used as by large corporations, SMEs, government (eg. UK, EU) and academia to set policy and R&D agendas. Partly as a result of this work, the European Commission funded a follow-up AgentLink proposal for 1.1M EUR.
